First, announcement. Due to my move, I cannot connect to the Internet from December 2nd to around 13th. I decided to move as soon as possible to settle down before it gets cold.
Although I will write some articles in advance and post them on a schedule, I may stop updating this blog during that time.
Today, I will talk about how to keep our values without envying others.
How to stop envying others
Sometimes, we want to stop envying others, especially when we look at happiness in the social majority.
Others’ happiness can make us depressed.
In my case, looking at competitive success, social victory, or a close-knit family sometimes made me gloomy. Perhaps this is because I cannot live in such a way and still have a little envy.
That is why we want to be confident in our future selves. In other words, we want to accept the unknown future.
However, we sometimes don’t know how to believe ourselves.
Today, I will talk about how to keep our values without envying others. This knowledge might give us a resolution to proceed to the unknown future.
What is the minority’s happiness?
If we are in the minority, the majority’s happiness can upset us because we cannot live in such a way. Even if we know we cannot get fulfillment in those ways, we might lose confidence in our values, especially when we don’t know our potential yet. That is the cause of envy.
In such a situation, awareness of our social role would help us.
Be aware that we are living in a changing environment. The situation will change inevitably. Even if one stable period lasts for a long time, it will certainly change someday.
When the situation changes, people who are active change. If we are empathic and creative, we would tend to be active in a confused era. We don’t have to worry about being unable to play an active role.
Firefighters who are active in emergencies
It is the same as a firefighter. They are active during fires or disasters. Although they are idle during peaceful and stable times, they are necessary for society. They don’t have to worry about the meaning of their work. It is worthwhile.
During times of peace, they can train. If they know the value of firefighting, they don’t force themselves to do other unrelated jobs. They can focus on their values.
We are just like that. We can train our way of life, even during a stable period. We can prepare for social confusion. We can prepare for the future, be frugal, find a creative way, and survive with fewer social resources in a peaceful countryside.
Even if it is not efficient, it is training. Knowing the cycle of society and being aware of our training gives us confidence in our way of life.
Knowing a form of our happiness
On the other hand, if we don’t know them, others’ values and happiness often upset us. We might lament because we don’t know what our happiness is.
If we have individuality, we often don’t know our potential and a form of happiness. We have to find it ourselves. That would be the challenge of a minority’s life.
In other words, feeling happiness is unimportant for us. We don’t always have to feel happy. Discovering a form of it would be our mission in life. Realizing it will fulfill us.
Conclusion
That would be a way to keep our values without envying others.
This knowledge might give us a resolution to proceed to the unknown future.
