How to Recover From Mental Shock: The Concept That We Cannot Fully Control Our Bodies

First, announcement: from late November to December, the frequency of this blog’s updates will decrease due to my moving. Recently, I suddenly received a message from my relative that I must leave my current house until the end of December next month. It is too sudden!

This event shocked my emotions, and I finally dealt with it, although it took two days. Today, I will talk about my way to recover from mental shock.

How to recover from mental shock

Sometimes, we want to recover from mental depression, especially when our dream is broken. Such discouragement suffers us and takes our energy away. That might make us want to retreat to our room alone.

Dealing with such mental shocks could affect our whole lives. If we fail to recover, we become afraid of similar troubles because we cannot solve them. That makes us hesitate to try new things and causes stagnation. Sometimes, we might abandon having a dream or hope.

That is why we need to learn how to recover from mental shock. It allows us to do many trials and errors.

However, we sometimes don’t know it. That makes us unconfident cowards.

Today, I will talk about my way to recover from mental shock through my recent experience.

The concept that we cannot fully control our bodies

I recently came to use the new concept: we cannot fully control our bodies. We are only the consciousness of our bodies. We cannot control the other parts. We are just asking our bodies to move.

This awareness makes us humble and allows us to accept our emotions from the body. Perhaps that is the most natural way to recover from mental shocks.

Although we might believe that we are the masters of our bodies, it is wrong because we cannot control many body parts.

For example, we cannot consciously stop our heartbeat. This means we cannot control our heart movement, although we own it. We cannot change blood pressure directly with our consciousness. Body temperature, the shape of the face, the structure of bones, the amount of fatigue, or our personalities are the same. We cannot change them consciously.

In other words, we have to follow the rules and signals from the body. If we ignore them, we will suffer. However, if we listen to these inner voices and cooperate together, we can use our bodies efficiently and will achieve abundance in the long term. We—our consciousness—are just playing a high-level part.

This awareness allows us to feel our emotions honestly and humbly because we know we cannot change them. They are the fundamental part of our bodies and outside of our control.

The case of my getting over

In my case, I was suddenly forced to leave my current house until the end of next month. Right after receiving the message, I was shocked. Originally, it was scheduled until June next year. I thought I would store enough wealth to buy a good house until then. However, the dream and the plan broke.

Independence in housing was my long dream. In addition, the city I was thinking of migrating to was where my grandmother lived. I loved her. I expected I could finally realize it, but I failed.

From a third-person perspective, it would seem no problem because we can see the event calmly with our logical sense. However, in my physical body, I also got an emotional response at the same time. Emotion distorts logical sense. That is why we sometimes think complicated.

It was the same in my case. At first, I could not think of anything and was stunned.

In such a situation, to calm down my emotions, I always go to sea. I like to see the sea on a quiet beach. Feeling nature makes us neutral. I left the shock untouched. I intentionally didn’t go against feeling it. I followed the inner voice. No excuse, no positive thinking. I let my body lose my energy.

Perhaps I knew losing energy was another aspect of my duality. If there is a positive wave, there is also a negative one. We cannot say which is good or bad. That is our duality.

Regaining logical thinking

After looking at it for two hours, on the way home, tears suddenly flowed. I let the emotions go. That might have been a process to calm down my emotions.

Early the next morning, I suddenly remembered I could migrate to the city, which is famous for the cheapest housing in my country. That city is located in the countryside and seaside as well. I can begin my secluded life, even if there. Although I have to sacrifice my furniture, I don’t have so many. They are not expensive. I can head in my direction, even if following another way.

If my grandmother lived, she would tell me to live life to the fullest. You have enough potential. Believe yourself. I believe you.

That was the end of my shock.

Listening to the inner voice

I felt I was not the master of my body. Even if my consciousness lost the energy to live, my body is trying to keep me alive. Our hearts move. Our blood carries nutrition. Even if we lose our appetite, it means that our bodies boost immunity by making room to work the liver strongly. Our bodies are helping us.

Perhaps our body is our greatest helper and the best one who understands us. Even if we have weak organs, like my weak liver, it tells us the necessity to care. The inner voice is not preventing our dreams. It is always on our side. We are just a part of our bodies.

This awareness would free us from the fear of shock. We can fail, but we can recover soon. We can let our bodies heal the emotional damage. We don’t have to force ourselves to solve the emotions consciously. We need to trust the power of our body.

That will give us confidence to proceed.

Conclusion

That is my way to recover from mental shock through my recent experience.

We can use the new concept: we cannot fully control our bodies. We can let our bodies heal the emotional damage.

This knowledge might give us confidence to proceed.
