Yesterday, I received my new PC. Since I had been using a low-spec PC that would lag even when blogging, this upgrade excited me.
By the way, fortunately, my brother gifted me this PC. It was an unexpected event. Let’s talk about it.
Why I received the new PC
Now I live in my parents’ home.
Last week, one of my brothers, who is 7 years older than me and currently lives in Thailand, returned home and began staying here temporarily due to a visa-related issue.
He has already built enough assets and is traveling around the world. In other words, he is rich and free. He has a partially different personality from mine. While I feel stressed by traveling and spending money, he doesn’t.
At dinner a few days ago, I asked him on a whim, “Do you have any VR headsets that you are not using?”

He said, “Why are you asking such a thing?”
I answered jokingly, “Since I have never experienced a VR game, I want to play one. Have you ever played it? By the way, I don’t even have a gaming PC, so having only a headset is pointless, though. Haha.”
The birthday present
I intended to talk about VR. However, it seemed that he interpreted it differently.
“With even a bit of specs, you can play VR games on PC.”
I answered, “My PC is so slow. It is barely enough to play YouTube with medium resolution, and even writing a blog on WordPress causes it to lag. I have been using such a PC for 7 years.”
“Alright, I’ll buy a PC for you.”
“Eh?”

“It’s the birthday present for you. This one is enough?”
What he showed me was a mini PC with the highest specifications.
I shouted, “What!?”
I could not believe he was that rich! I can never offer someone an expensive gift! Since I have long lived frugally, I was jealous of his wealth! I want to say something luxurious like that just once! In the first place, I never even thought about spending money on my brothers!
Although I refused his offer reflexively, I decided to gladly accept it. Rationally speaking, I will lose nothing. It is my brother’s money. He is responsible for his spending. It is not my responsibility! Thank you, my brother, although I may not give you anything back for your birthday.
Expectations vs. predictions
We sometimes encounter the unexpected, especially when changing.
When we enter a new situation expecting nothing, we are often pleasantly surprised by unexpected things. On the other hand, when we continue to repeat the same actions while hoping for an ideal outcome, the unexpected discourages us.
To be precise, prioritizing expectations over predictions creates continuous disappointment.

Expectation differs from prediction. Expectation is an emotional reaction, while prediction is a rational action. When we formulate a hypothesis and verify it, the unexpected doesn’t bring disappointment. It is feedback.
Rationality makes us aware that our predictions are often wrong, for better or worse. That awareness sometimes brings us surprisingly fortunate events, like me this time.
Conclusion
Anyway, I am currently setting up a new PC.
Although I am unsure if I will be able to utilize its specs fully, it seems like I can at least write this blog more comfortably.
I also want to try generative and creative AI.
Thank you for reading this article. I hope to see you in the next one.
