Sewing is one of my recent hobbies. Let’s talk about it.
I started to sew a new bag
Even if something doesn’t interest us at first, if we are relaxed and do it, we sometimes become interested. In addition, if it can solve our problems, we suddenly come to like it.
It was the same for me. In my case, I had no interest in sewing at the beginning. I started it as a relaxing activity.
A few weeks ago, I sewed my first bag. It was a simple, small bag made from a pair of jeans. I didn’t intend to use it. I created it for fun on a whim.
Unexpectedly, I used that bag a lot.
This is because I currently have a problem with closet space. I now live in a room in my parents’ house, but there is not enough storage space in my room. Although there is one closet, it is almost filled with my brother’s belongings. I have to manage my items in a quite limited closet area with a hanger.
Although I am a minimalist and have disposed of many things, I still need to reduce and manage them more effectively. This was a challenging problem.
In such a situation, I noticed that fabric bags are effective in utilizing space. Although cardboard is also effective in organizing, when the usable area is severely limited, it cannot be used because of its fixed size.
On the other hand, fabric bags can vary in size according to the contents. We can hang them on a hanger. They allow us to organize things in a narrow space efficiently.
That motivated me to sew more fabric bags.
About the material of bags
That would be why people use fabric bags for daily activities. They usually don’t carry suitcases and cardboard boxes.
Hard boxes protect the contents from damage. A suitcase is useful for traveling long distances. A cardboard box is effective for shipping items on cars and boats.
On the other hand, there is a traveling style called backpacking. Despite a long trip, they use cloth bags instead of suitcases. Perhaps it is because they enjoy the journey as an extension of their daily lives. Since they always carry it with them, they don’t need hard cases.
This logic tells us that if we store things only in a closet, we don’t need to use hard boxes, like cardboard boxes. This is because it will not be damaged inside the closet. On the other hand, shelves that can be damaged, such as bookshelves, need to be made of a hard material.
Organizing is interesting. Creating bags is one part of it.
Conclusion
Anyway, I started to create a new bag.
Although it is still a part of a relaxing activity, I have started to enjoy it gradually.
