Being Absorbed Enough to Forget to Sleep and Eat: It Might Not Be So Bad

In the previous article (this article), I mentioned immersing ourselves in something until forgetting to sleep and eat. Although I used to think it was a bad habit and had to stop, I recently changed my mind. Today, I will talk about it.

How to stop bad habits of being too absorbed

Sometimes, we want to stop the bad habits that our individuality causes.

One example is getting so absorbed in something that we forget to eat and sleep. We might easily forget about other things and concentrate when we find something interesting. If we like focusing on something or emptying our minds, we might have such a tendency.

This makes us anxious because we are out of the ordinary and bad for our health. That is why we start to think that it is a bad habit. I also felt like that. I have had such a nature and often got frustrated with other things that disrupted my concentration.

However, I recently came to think that it might not be so bad.

Today, I will explain why and introduce my way to balance my life. This might encourage you if you are worried about your nature like that.

Why being relaxed solves the problem

We might worry about our natures being absorbed enough to forget to sleep and eat. In my opinion, we don’t need to be anxious about it if we head toward independence. On the contrary, we can solve that problem by being at ease with it and trusting our individuality.

This is because our mental duality caused it, as I have been talking about lately. Being aware of it would solve it naturally.

We have at least two contradictory aspects of desires. In the above example, the want to continue the fun thing and focus on it is one side. The physical demand and the wish for refreshments are on the other side. We live while swinging between those two wants. We have to satisfy both to proceed happily.

When we get frustrated, it means it is time to switch the side of desires.

Living with two sides of enjoyment

It tells us that feeling hungry and drowsy are not things that take away our enjoyment. They give us another aspect of fun: refreshment.

The fact that our body wants them means we can enjoy them to the fullest. In other words, they are more fun than continuing the work that is starting to get frustrating.

If we believe the ‘interesting work’ is the only thing we can enjoy, we are afraid to interrupt it. We don’t want to lose fun things. That makes us obsess over the work and causes stagnation. Sometimes, that makes us give up on that activity due to the suffering.

On the other hand, if we know getting frustrated is a time to switch the side of desires, we can both relax and have fun. We know we can focus on it again after taking a break. This reassurance removes our fear and obsession.

In addition, we often get other ideas to improve our works and lives. That prevents stagnation and can make us love them more.

In other words, we try to live with two sides of enjoyment always. This allows us to improve our lives steadily while preventing stagnation.

My way to balance my life

I recently came to think I don’t want to do fun things while putting up with something.

In my case, I often held the bathroom when I was absorbed in something. However, I have recently been talking to myself, “Let’s do happy things without putting up with something.”

This allowed me to enjoy trivial tasks as well because they became one part of my fun. Not only focusing on an interesting thing but also its preparation is joyful. For example, preparation for travel is fun as well as traveling itself. It is a part of traveling.

If we head toward independence, less patience means more enjoyment.

It might not be so bad

Having fun activities is a precious wealth. It is one element that makes our lives wonderful.

In my opinion, we don’t have to think that getting too absorbed is a bad habit and have to modify it. It is one gift that our individuality gives us.

This is not suppressing the want; it is allowing and adding another side of want to your life. Be at ease and know the enjoyment of the other side of your wants. This would solve the problem as long as you head toward independence.

Conclusion

That is why we don’t need to be anxious about being absorbed enough to forget to sleep and eat.

We can solve that problem by knowing another aspect of our wants and being at ease with it.
