How to Eliminate Fear of Being Compared

In the previous article (this article), I showed you my second sewing work. Although it is still unskilled, I realized that there is no fear of being compared to other bags. Let’s talk about it.

How to reduce the fear of comparison

Sometimes, we want to reduce the fear of being compared to others. Even if we create something, it makes us hesitate to show our products to others.

Criticism discourages us. Being inferior implies being more meaningless. Naturally, we fear comparison.

That prevents us from introducing our work to others. We cannot gain the admiration and joy of others, which is part of our motivation. We also lose the opportunity to make our fans and share and sell our products to them.

That is why we want to reduce the fear of being compared to others.

However, we sometimes don’t know how to avoid it.

One solution is to associate your creativity with concrete problems. That will eliminate the fear of criticism. Today, I will explain why.

Why restrictions reassure you

Connect your creation to concrete problems. That frees you from the fear of being compared to others.

Creativity is meant to solve a problem. In other words, when you introduce your products, you need to present your issues and individual situation at the same time. That completes your creation.

For example, suppose we were hungry. We could not go to restaurants and grocery stores. However, we had only wheat, sugar, vegetable oil, and jam. That led us to bake pastries. We enjoyed it, and they filled our stomachs.

In this situation, we don’t fear criticism for making low-quality sweets. This is because we solved the problem—our hunger.

Creation is solving a problem under restrictions. The stricter the constraint, the more creativity shines. Even if it is a low-level pastry, it can be a high level of creativity depending on the circumstances.

Restrictions also give us moderation. To satisfy our fickle wants for sweets in the afternoon, we don’t need to bake the best or most unique pastry in the world. We also don’t have to become billionaires to fill our stomachs.

That prevents criticism. Restrictions teach people moderation.

On the other hand, let’s say we made pastries and published them on our blog without any background reason. The viewers cannot imagine our limitations. That makes them ask, “Why do you not bake it like a top pastry chef?”

That causes comparison.

Presenting like a story

It is like a story. With the circumstances of the protagonist, we can empathize with him from the beginning, when he is not perfect.

At the beginning of the story, we usually learn about the protagonist’s special circumstances, his problem, and his constraints. That allows his creativity to shine.

Being a beginner is one of the constraints.

Honest people can say they are beginners. They don’t even use it as an excuse. They show their unique circumstances and focus on their problems. In that process, encountering the unexpected is also an aspect of their growth. That prevents criticism.

In contrast, those with an inferiority complex are unable to admit their beginner status. They pretend to be professional from the very beginning.

That is why those with an inferiority complex are often compared to others and criticized.

Conclusion

That is why associating your creativity with concrete problems will eliminate the fear of criticism.

Creativity is meant to solve a problem.

You can show your special circumstances, problems, and constraints with your products honestly.

That will reduce the fear of being compared to others.
