Recently, I started sewing as a hobby. Although I have created digital content for a long time, such as games and books, I wanted to create something different that is not digital but real. I wanted to try a different field. New things make me vigorous.
However, I could not imagine the unknowns.
Interestingly, rationality brought me unexpected encounters. One of them was sewing.
After I moved to my parents’ house, I learned that my retired parents sewed and earned some extra income. There was a professional sewing environment with a wide selection of fabrics. Although I had almost no experience and no interest in it, it was good timing.
That was why I started sewing.
In addition, I had a problem with my limited storage area in my room. I had to organize my belongings efficiently. That led me to make bags.
My second handbag
The photo below is my second bag. It is made of a pair of short pants. I used the back pocket of the pants as the pocket for the bag.
The original pants are like the image below. It is the unused old ones that my parents got for free.
It has a simple structure. I unsewed the fabric for the butt parts, matched them, sewed them together, and added handles. Sewing a cloth bag is fundamentally simple.
The edges of the fabric are finished beautifully by a serger, which is a special sewing machine. (The black string part in the image below.)
The bag also has a gusset, which makes the bag more spacious.
The process that took the most time was unsewing the pants. Using old clothes is affordable, but it takes time.
Compared to my first work
Let’s compare it to my first bag. Since the pocket is inside the bag, it appears smart and calm.
The color and the balance of the bag are more mature than those of the previous one. I will not be embarrassed to carry it around.
I am satisfied with this bag. I already use it as an organizing bag in my closet, as well as the previous one.
Thinking about people’s preferences
People’s values are diverse. Although it is obvious that these bags are remakes of vintage clothing, I heard that some prefer handmade items like this. They are often willing to buy them.
In my values, we don’t have a lot of money to buy new bags, so we remodel our old clothes.
However, some are willing to buy remade bags and clothes. There may be several reasons. They might want to show their homely aspects. They might dislike mass-produced items and desire uniqueness. They might prefer environmental protection. They might love a certain kind of design.
Whatever the motivation may be, it attracts others if we create an effective lifestyle. Even if we live frugally, we can produce our products that make life effective and beautiful.
An attractive way of life is something many people aspire to emulate.
Conclusion
Anyway, I have completed creating my second bag.
Sewing is interesting if we have a sewing machine.
I am thinking about what to make next.
