I helped my brother at his pastry store yesterday. Since I am feeling physically fatigued, let’s talk briefly about what I felt yesterday.
Baking cookies
Yesterday, my main task was baking cookies—one of the simplest confections to bake.
The difficulty level of baking cookies may suit me right now. The task allowed me to invest my effort fully. Although it was physically challenging, it satisfied me.

There are two ways to form cookies, as follows:
- Roll the dough thin and flat, then cut it out with a mold one by one. Although it takes time, we can create complex shapes.
- Shape the dough into a round, then slice it with a cookie slicer. Although we cannot create intricate shapes, they can be prepared quickly.

That is why the usual cookies at pastry shops are simple shapes. Aside from decoration, simple shapes are functional in production.
The difference in methodology
The difference in such methodology may apply to various industries. That affects efficiency. For example, in sewing, we can make a large, common shape first and then create variations from it. That may be practical in business production.
On the other hand, for expressing oneself, it would be better to perfect each work individually. Either way, creation is fun.

By the way, I used a small oven for the first time. Although I said it was small, it means that it was for industrial use. It was ten times larger than a microwave in our homes. It could bake several hundred cookies at once.
The oven operation was simple. It was programmed individually according to the recipe. We select the number of the recipe, preheat the oven, put in the cookies, flip the tray to prevent uneven baking, and wait. I like such automation.
Conclusion
Anyway, I learned how to bake cookies in a pastry shop yesterday.
I will go to help for three days from tomorrow until Christmas. Since my brother’s wife fell ill due to her heavy workload, I decided to help them on the 25th as well.
Such a chaotic situation may be the time to show our empathy and rationality.
Thank you for reading this article. I hope to see you in the next one.
