Yesterday, I finally finished my 9th bag. Although it took almost two weeks, it became my best work so far. Let’s introduce it.
My 9th bag
My 9th bag is a large handbag with a shoulder strap. Its width is 37 cm. It is a remodeled-style patchwork design made from two kinds of denim fabric. It is as shown in the following photo:

This is not a remodel. I used plain denim fabrics that my parents received for free a few weeks ago. I didn’t have to unsew anything, making it easier to create than using a pair of old jeans.
Since a D-ring to hang accessories is on the front side, we can decorate it with our favorite bag charms. Now I have temporarily displayed the small doll made of straps.
The ability to personalize with our decorations is another appealing aspect of a bag.
New elements
I tried many new elements this time as well.
The first is patchwork. This is the simplest one. It was composed of four squares with straight seams.

However, despite its simple appearance, it was not easy to sew straight and align beautifully. The fabric’s softness varies depending on the direction, vertical or horizontal. That causes the fabric to shift while sewing with the sewing machine. I learned several techniques to sew neatly.
In other words, it requires several skills to make beautiful patchwork.
Thanks to those techniques, it turned out beautifully. Look at the beauty of the white seam. Although it is a basic sewing skill, it allows us to create a beautiful product even without advanced skills that require a long time to master. Fundamental skill is the essence of many techniques.
An inner zipper pocket
The second element I first tried is the inner pocket with a zipper. It is the upper one in the following image:

Although it looks simple, it requires effort to finish its edges appropriately.
In other words, bags with an inner zipper pocket tend to be of higher quality. Since it is unnoticeable, it is one of the most easily eliminated elements by cost reduction.
Even if the bags appear similar, the quality varies depending on the seamstress.
When you buy a handbag, try looking inside and searching the zipper pocket. If that bag has a carefully stitched inner zipper pocket, it indicates that a skilled artisan crafted it.
A bag bottom insert
The third element I tried for the first time is adding a bag bottom insert. This time, I used a soft plastic plate.

It increases the stability of the bottom while maintaining the shape of the bag. When placing various small items in a bag with considerable depth, the bottom tends to sag. That makes the bag look ugly and less convenient to use. The bag bottom insert prevents that problem.
New sewing methods
The final element I first tried is the sewing method in this bag. I learned various sewing techniques to prevent it from slipping.

That made the seams beautiful. I am satisfied with the finishing.
Conclusion
Anyway, I finished my 9th bag. Although I like it and want to use it for myself, I will sell it at the local festival held at the end of this month.
I am gradually developing my skills. It is fun.
Starting with the next product, I will begin sewing my first order that I recently received.
Let’s proceed to the next stage and change our lives.
Thank you for reading this article. I hope to see you in the next one.
