Two Experiences That Illustrate the Essence of Curiosity

Although I have long explained empathy and logical sense, it seems I have spoken all. Now my curiosity directs me toward learning new things. Let’s talk about curiosity lightly.

How to find our curiosity

Sometimes, we want to follow our curiosity. It gives us unexpected changes and progression in our lives. In addition, we can learn new things without fear. In other words, it is fun.

There are two ways to improve our lives, as follows:

  • Setting goals is an empathic way. A clear, imaginable goal motivates us. Although it gives us initial high energy, it is vulnerable to changes and often creates stagnation.
  • Following curiosity is a logical way. Rationality, which is part of logic, shows us other options and interests us. Although we cannot anticipate the future, it gives us continuous, solid changes.

Following curiosity is better if we want to change.

However, we sometimes cannot find our curiosity.

Today, I will introduce several experiences that show the nature of curiosity. This might help you realize your interests.

Two essences of curiosity

I will introduce two natures of curiosity, as follows:

  • Curiosity has no energy. When we look for something to enjoy, we cannot find it.
  • There is no strong curiosity from the beginning. Accumulation of small discoveries leads us to larger curiosity.

Let’s look at each.

Curiosity has no energy

The first essence is that curiosity has no energy. When we look for something to enjoy, we cannot find it.

In other words, deciding to rest is more efficient for finding curiosity than being productive.

Curiosity means finding another option. We cannot anticipate what will happen if we choose it. We cannot be excited about things where the outcome is unpredictable. That is why curiosity has no energy.

In my case, I came to feel limitations these days to keep talking about empathy and logical sense. Although it was exciting, I am no longer finding discoveries. I struggled for several days, but it was in vain.

That made me decide to stop talking about this topic and to take a rest. There is no problem if every article on this blog is not interesting.

However, after that determination, I realized my curiosity. I have started to think about what I want to do if I take a break. I felt like learning more English and about edible wild plants. They interested me.

It means I was unaware of my curiosity while trying to create outcomes.

That is why deciding to rest is more efficient for finding curiosity than being productive. Our interest doesn’t lie in the productive areas. It includes trying to enjoy.

Try to rest more instead of being active. That would give you new interests. Curiosity is in areas where there is still no energy.

No strong curiosity from the beginning

The second essence is that there is no strong curiosity from the beginning. Accumulation of small discoveries leads us to larger curiosity.

To explain it, let’s look at yesterday’s experience of mine.

I wanted to wash my bicycle. It has been months since the last cleaning, and it has gotten a little dirty. I wanted to try an old toothbrush to remove the dirt.

However, it takes time and effort. It will take an hour. I wanted to be lazy.

That made me clean the sink in the laundry room. It will be over in 1 minute.

I tried to sweep the dirt with the old toothbrush. The dirt on the corner has been cleaned off nicely. That surprised me. It became more beautiful than expected.

Then, I tried to use it in the kitchen sink. It also worked well. I was excited by that discovery. An old toothbrush is a great cleaner!

Perhaps you can predict what happened after that. I could not help but try it with my bicycle. Then, I completely cleaned up the bicycle’s derailleur, which is the gear system, the chains, and the frame. I was absorbed in it for over an hour.

That was my experience. There is no strong curiosity from the beginning. Accumulation of small discoveries leads us to larger curiosity.

Conclusion

They are the nature of curiosity.

Curiosity has no energy. There is no strong curiosity from the beginning.

These experiences might help you find your interests.
