After I started to live with my parents, I began to learn sewing. Then, I finally finished my first work!
A small, simple bag
This is my first sewing product:
It is a small, simple bag. Its width is about 20 cm, and it is made from a pair of old jeans.
I used the fabric from around the back pocket. As you can see, I intentionally designed it with the tilting pocket. This is due to its original arrangement.
In a sewing sense, the back pocket of the jeans is not parallel to the waistline. When we wear it, it will be horizontal. It looks beautiful. However, in terms of the fabric structure, it is a bit angled to fit the curve of the buttocks. When I disassembled the jeans, I learned about the structure for the first time.
That made me design it with the angled pocket. To be honest, it would be better if it were more tilted in terms of design. However, I could not concretely envision the completed form since I created the bag for the first time. That is why it has such a design.
Despite that, it was interesting. Even if the result is unexpected, we can speculate about the reason and make improvements. We can sometimes take advantage of the principle that caused the unexpected. That would be one fun thing that curiosity provides.
Examples of creative ideas
I realized that even a simple bag had various creative ideas.
One example is the edge of the fabric. Look at the black thread part in the next photo.
The edge is processed well. A special sewing machine called a serger processed it. Perhaps you have seen such seams on your shirts and pants.
It is meant to prevent the threads at the edge from fraying. It looks like it was made by a professional. The following photo is of the serger in my house:
I learned the existence of a serger and how to use it for the first time. It was a fresh experience.
Another creative example is a gusset. Look at the bottom of the bag. The edge is sewn about 5 cm. It makes the bag roomier.
Although I knew the existence of a gusset, I learned the structure for the first time.
Those discoveries entertained me.
Conclusion
Anyway, I sewed a bag for the first time. It was an enjoyable experience.
I already use it as a small storage bag in my closet.
In the next sewing project, I will create something larger with the following two fabrics.
Sewing can be fun if you are interested and have a sewing machine.
