These days, I have explained the distinction between business and charity. Although I tried to write about it more, I failed to organize my logic today. Since I am still considering it, let’s talk about my current thoughts freely.
The contradiction I felt toward charity
I often felt contradiction towards those who engage in charity work. It is as follows:
- Why do they smile only at those who donate and ignore those who don’t? Do they think people who don’t donate are not worth smiling at?
- Why do they treat socially disadvantaged people as if they are unhappy? Do they consider being different from others or not having fundamental things as unfortunate?
- Why are they dressed up and wearing so much makeup? Did they judge that spending money on dressing up was more important than using money for the ‘weak and unhappy people’ they talk about?
- If not, why are they trying to make others pay instead of paying themselves?
- Although they say helping each other is important, why does no one help us when we are suffering? Why do they prioritize those people who choose over other people with heavy unhappiness, such as children in war zones or famine areas?

Although I understand their behaviors emotionally, I was confused about the inconsistency between their words and actions.
The cause of confusion
These days, I have realized charity is fundamentally irrational. Although charity requires efficiency, we should not apply rationality to the fundamental part. They have no specific criteria. They want to help someone based on their mood.
They are telling lies to enjoy helping. They like helping people and also enjoy cooperating with others. In other words, they want to do it together. However, they don’t know how to get others involved in their activities.
That made them use a lie: portraying the weak people as unfortunate. Without it, nobody participates in their activities. Since the majority of people are less logical, many people don’t care about such a lie.

However, I realized that the lie confused logical people, like me. It means that they are confusing others for their amusement.
Perhaps that is why I have stopped donating and encouraging others to help weak people. In other words, what I wanted was rationality and philosophy that explain people’s irrationality.
Empathic and logical people might tend to have such a feeling. We want to help people rationally. That may be the reason that we are not good at donating without philosophy.
Conclusion
Anyway, that’s it, although they are my scattered thoughts.
I struggled to organize my thoughts today.
