Why We Feel Misunderstood When We Are Respected

Finding the differences in personality is one of my hobbies. Everyone has different senses and circumstances. However, everyone believes that their senses and circumstances are the norm. That belief causes many misunderstandings and mysteries among people. It is fun for me to unveil such mysteries.

Recently, I experienced such a case. Let’s talk about it.

How to be free from envy

There are times when we envy or despise others. It often makes us lose our balance because it imposes only one aspect on us.

In other words, if we realize the differences in senses and circumstances, we naturally balance our minds and accept them.

However, we sometimes lack sufficient experience in sensing how others feel.

In such a case, my recent experience might help you. It reminds us that others often misunderstand us. That might calm our envy.

Being aware of misunderstandings

If we have uniqueness, it is natural that we are misunderstood. In such a situation, an evaluation that maintains our moderate balance would be more comfortable.

To make it easier to understand, let’s look at my example.

Several months ago, I started to live in my parents’ house. I recently realized that my parents may misunderstand my motives.

I like light work that ends within 50 minutes, such as cooking, cleaning, and weeding. 50 minutes is one of the limits of my short-term concentration. In other words, I can do them as meditational activities. They allow me to empty my mind and be peaceful. They are enjoyable for me.

I usually go walking and cycling in the afternoon. Then, I do some weeding in the garden, cleaning the bath, and sewing. That is my current comfortable schedule to spend the evening.

However, my parents don’t seem to feel that way about those tasks. These household chores are boring and troublesome for them.

The feeling of being misunderstood

From their perspective, I seem to be well-disciplined. They seem to feel that I am such a strong person for enduring painful things every day. Since they are already retired, they don’t have to hurry and tend to lose their tension. For them, overcoming the desire to be lazy is not easy. That would be why they are impressed by my behavior.

It seems they are trying to have a strong mind like I do.

However, that is their misunderstanding. I just did these tasks because it was comfortable. In other words, people enjoy different things.

That is why being respected makes us feel somewhat misunderstood. We cannot be strong in every aspect. If we are expected to be patient in every area, it will exhaust us. Being respected is also troublesome in terms of expectation.

This perspective frees us from envy and disdain. We have multiple aspects. An evaluation that maintains our moderate balance would be more comfortable.

In addition, that awareness allows us to be at ease. People often misunderstand. It includes ourselves. It may be rational for us to resolve our misunderstandings before correcting those of others.

Conclusion

That is one example of how others feel.

If we have uniqueness, it is natural that we are misunderstood. We have multiple aspects. An evaluation that maintains our moderate balance would be more comfortable.

That might calm our envy.
