Ignore Your Favorite: How to Create a New Version of Yourself

I started to sew a new bag yesterday. This is my fourth bag.

During that process, I had an interesting experience and discovery that told me how to find my new aspects. Let’s talk about it.

How to have a new aspect of self

Sometimes, we want to have a new aspect of self.

We have various possibilities. Even if we are experiencing stagnation, it is not our limits but the limits of our current lifestyles.

Although we cannot change our personality, we have multiple aspects of self. Even if one aspect is plain, another one can be shining.

Multiple perspectives on ourselves show us our new attractiveness.

That is why we want to know another aspect of ourselves.

However, we sometimes don’t know how to find it.

One solution is to ignore your favorite. That might show you a new, attractive aspect. Today, I will explain why with my experience.

Why I ignored my inner image

Ignore your image and preferences. Then, try something rational that you encountered. That will bring you a new aspect of yourself.

To make it easier to understand, let’s look at my recent experience.

I began sewing a new bag yesterday, as I mentioned at the top of this article. Since I already decided what to make, I looked for a suitable fabric for it with the help of my parents.

The first fabric they showed me was strange to me. In terms of functionality, it was appropriate for the outer fabric of the bag. It was thick and tough. However, it was far from my image of bags and preferences. The color was dull and lacked distinct characteristics. Its texture was rough, like a curtain lining and a grain bag. The color and pattern were something I would least choose for a bag.

However, after looking at several other fabrics, I decided to use the first one.

Although the fabrics I saw after the second one were all beautiful, they were thin and not suitable for bags. That made me realize I didn’t know enough about bag designs. It is unreasonable to judge based on my shallow preferences and inner images without knowing them deeply.

I still don’t know enough about bags. That awareness eliminated my preferences and images. If it was reasonable as a material, that was sufficient. Experiencing such unknown things would change the future.

We still don’t know what suits us

Our preferences and inner images are merely vague things. They are nothing more than a selfish assumption based on the short past.

For example, suppose we went to a clothing store with our friends. We tried on some clothes. It was entirely on a whim. We picked them because they were just displayed in front of us. We were not particularly interested in it. However, one of our friends said it suited you with a smile.

That is enough for us to be interested in those clothes.

Even without compliments from others, a bit of self-satisfaction stimulates interest. In my case, I made my first bag from a pair of jeans. It was entirely for myself, and I was not interested in sewing at that time.

However, when I put my items in it, it stored them well. I smiled in front of my narrow closet and felt, ‘Not bad.’ That satisfaction led me to make the second bag.

Our inner images and preferences can be easily shaped like that. In other words, they are vague and unreliable.

We still don’t know the world enough. In such a situation, it is unreasonable to judge everything based on the first images we obtain in life.

It is like choosing clothes that suit us. Try another one if you are tired of your current clothes. If it is rational, there is no problem. You don’t have to worry about whether they suit you. They already have a reason.

That will show you another aspect of yourself and change your future.

Conclusion

That is why ignoring your image and preferences shows you a new aspect of yourself.

Our preferences and inner images are merely vague things. It is unreasonable to judge everything based on the first images we obtain in life.

This awareness might show you another aspect of your attractiveness.
