A Tool Has a Soul: How to Quickly Master the Use of Tools

I recently started sewing as a hobby and am now struggling with the sewing machine. It doesn’t work as I imagined!

That made me think of how to master tools quickly. Let’s talk about it.

How to master tools quickly

Sometimes, we want to master the use of tools quickly. Using tools efficiently is inevitable in acquiring skills.

For example, in painting, we may have to use brushes efficiently. In playing music, we may have to learn how to play instruments. In singing, we may have to master how to use our vocal cords and breath. Even parts of the body, such as fingers and eyes, are tools.

In my case, it was the sewing machine. Using it efficiently allows me to make beautiful works.

However, we sometimes struggle with those tools. They don’t work as we imagine. That stresses us.

That is why we want to master tools quickly.

One solution is to relax and focus on comprehension rather than insist on and impose our wants. That encourages the improvement of our tool mastery. Today, I will explain why.

A master-tool relationship

To master tools quickly, calm down and try to comprehend them rather than claiming.

It is useless to argue with tools. The relationship between a master and a tool shows us why.

A tool is specialized in something. It means being competent in one area but incompetent in others.

On the other hand, a master must use a tool in the appropriate area. That is the master’s responsibility. When a master manages it properly, a tool demonstrates its full capabilities.

That tells us that a master must have a deep understanding of his subordinates. A capable administrator can become abundant even from limited resources.

In other words, a person who makes orders without trying to understand the nature of his subordinates is unqualified as a master.

A tool that has a soul

A tool has a will. This concept would enable us to become its master more easily.

This master-tool relationship often appears as metaphors in fantasy stories. A protagonist acquires a legendary weapon, such as a special sword, a mythic magic spell, or a holy beast.

In the case of obtaining a legendary sword, the protagonist at first tries to wield it simply as a tool. However, it doesn’t show its true power.

Then, he realizes that the sword has a will. His situation forces him to understand why the sword was born and what purpose it serves.

When he recognizes the sword’s will and accepts its purpose, he can receive its full power. It is symbolized as a contract between a master and a servant.

That process describes well how to use tools efficiently. Perhaps you have a tool that you have used for a long time. You may feel like it has a soul.

The same goes for a tool that we use for the first time. Try thinking that a tool has a soul or spirit. We have to recognize it. It will not work if we only impose our desires.

That would be the initial step toward mastery.

In terms of comprehension, those with empathy and logical sense, like us, are proficient in learning new skills. This is because these natures make us understand others first. We usually try to change ourselves rather than others. That is why we tend to acquire a skill in the shorter term.

Relaxation urges us to understand others.

Conclusion

That is why relaxation and focusing on comprehension help us master tools quickly. It is more efficient than insisting on and imposing our wants.

Try thinking that a tool has a soul, and a master must understand it.

That might encourage the improvement of our tool mastery.
