A Detox Period in Life: How to Relax When the Situation Is Deteriorating

I have a naturally weak liver, and early summer is the season when it upsets my physical condition. That made me think of how to relax in such a period. Let’s talk about it.

How to stay calm in a bad situation

Sometimes, we want to relax even when things are deteriorating. Rational thinking requires calmness, and stirring up our anxiety can lead us to hasty decisions.

However, we sometimes cannot stay calm in such a period. We could not help but worry about the future.

I experienced that problem recently. My physical condition wavers largely during this season, as I said at the top of this article. Although my health is getting better gradually in the long term, I frequently wavered between hope and despair. Those emotional fluctuations stressed me and made me exhausted.

That was why I wanted to relax even when my situation was worsening.

I realized that one solution is to apply the concept of a detox period in life. It also might help you reduce your anxiety. Today, I will introduce the logic.

How to judge the current situation

We can consider a negative situation as a detox period. That allows us to align our attitudes with reality.

There are two situations, as follows:

  • When things go as we wish: It is the state that our expectations match reality. Although we feel at ease, there is no guarantee that it will last forever.
  • When things don’t go as we wish: It is the state that our expectations don’t match reality. Although we feel anxious, adapting to a fluctuating reality gives us the development we desire.

We have two senses of judgment, as follows:

  • Empathic judgment: We judge that the most recent trend will continue forever.
  • Logical judgment: We judge based on moderate, long-term historical changes.

These distinctions told me that I can consider a negative situation as a detox period. That relaxed me and allowed me to modify my action rationally.

Wrong confidence that hurt us

Logically speaking, the state that can be judged good or bad cannot last forever. Everything fluctuates, including a change in our senses and interpretation.

Imagination can only describe one state. It cannot understand the cycle.

That makes us wrongly confident of the future. We believe that the future will converge into one result. We cannot imagine that the process and result generate another change. Imagination makes us believe that the state is absolute.

Naturally, we can neither wait nor calm down. Impatience drives us to take action.

That causes our emotional roller coasters as the circumstances change.

Thinking in phases

On the other hand, logical sense can understand the cycle. A sequential change usually creates a cycle. It allows us to focus on how much allocation is reasonable rather than what is good or bad.

We understand that the right answer can change, and there is a possibility of misinterpreting the situation. That awareness eliminates assumptions and enables us to make reasonable judgments.

In my case, I realized a cycle of my physical condition.

I am currently in a phase where I eat more to restore my physical strength. It puts a strain on my liver and makes me feel terrible. However, if I exercise and rest moderately, I will gradually get better without unnecessary stress.

That freed me from worries and impatience. Now I can rest and exercise moderately. I aligned my reaction with reality.

In the past, I was anxious and wrongly confident about the future. That made me react extremely.

For example, when I thought I had overeaten, I reduced my food intake excessively. If exercise improved my condition even a little, I continued it without resting.

It is natural to work negatively as the phase changes. In addition, I often became more anxious and started to act more extreme.

Confidence and impatience

The same goes for our lives. When we are confident but impatient, our decisions are often unreasonable.

When we are rational, despite our unconfidence, we are calm. We understand we cannot predict the future perfectly, so we don’t pursue absolute confidence. Since we don’t know the meaning of life, we can take the more comfortable path without worrying about the value of the activity.

Conclusion

That is why the concept of a detox period in life allowed me to relax, even when the situation was deteriorating.

Empathy causes emotional roller coasters and wrong confidence in the future.

On the other hand, rational thinking in cycles allows us to align our reactions calmly.

This logic might reduce your anxiety and give you calmness.
