Inconvenience Doesn’t Mean Unhealthy: A Lifestyle in the Countryside to Promote Mental and Physical Health

I finally cleaned up my room. A neat room with few things makes me feel good. However, because I still need to buy several items, I have to go downtown with my bicycle. My backpack capacity is limited, so I have to go back and forth many times.

Today, I will talk about a way of life in the countryside: inconvenience doesn’t mean unhealthy.

How to live with inconvenience in the countryside

Sometimes, we want to live peacefully in the countryside, away from social stresses. Those stresses exhaust us and hurt our physical and mental health.

However, we sometimes hesitate to head toward such a peaceful life.

One reason is the inconvenience in the countryside. The countryside is inconvenient for everything. The grocery store is far away, and there are few stores. Although we can shop online, it sometimes costs a shipping fee to buy a small thing and takes time. Those worries discourage us from living in the countryside.

In such a case, focusing on what you value in living there could help us determine to live peacefully in the countryside. Inconvenience doesn’t mean unhealthy. Thanks to the inconvenience, we can get a healthy lifestyle.

Today, I will talk about it through my recent experience.

A convenient life vs. a healthy life

Inconvenience doesn’t mean unhealthy. On the contrary, they can conflict in terms of social life.

  • Pursuing a convenient life in society: It takes costs, is noisy but stimulating, and requires us to play a social role in something. This is for people who want to live socially dependent.
  • Pursuing a healthy life away from society: It requires less spending, is quiet but boring, and needs to manage various things oneself. This is for people who want independence.

This is a matter of which one to prioritize. If we choose convenience, we need more money to get a healthier state. This is because we rely on other professionals, such as good chefs who provide nutritious meals, good doctors, good exercise instructors, a good living environment, or good health advisors. Instead, we don’t have to manage them ourselves. Convenience comes first, and health comes after.

On the other hand, if we choose a healthy life, we have to manage everything ourselves. However, it requires less cost. The more we can manage various things, the more convenient we become. Health first, convenience after.

This is a matter of our values. We are free to choose which one we prefer. If we can manage various things and want mental and physical health, choosing inconvenience could be an option.

An example of how I realized inconvenience was good

In my case, I wanted mental and physical health rather than convenience. I can manage many things myself and enjoy it. That is my natural style. On the other hand, I knew a convenient but stressful state, such as being an employee, made me sick. It will hurt my mental health.

Several days ago, I remembered my values like that. At the first stage of my move, I wanted as convenient a life as possible. In other words, I tried to avoid inconvenience, but I had no choice but to choose it due to my resource limit.

However, I realized that choosing it was the best way for my life.

The trigger that made me realize this was that I had to ride my bicycle many times. I have to go downtown to buy many items, but it takes a 1-hour round trip by bicycle.

The healthy result caused by inconvenience

Despite its inconvenience, I felt I was fulfilled because it brought me to a healthy state.

Physically, I was able to exercise moderately. I noticed I would feel better if I did such an exercise about once every three days. In addition, it makes me feel better about my meals and sleep better at night.

Mentally, I was able to clear my mind. I emptied my mind when I rode my bicycle through the mountains and coastal scenery. Worries and anxieties disappeared, and I felt refreshed.

Living with more love and less boredom

In addition, I have less boredom. Boredom would be a problem in life in the countryside. However, taking the time to do something made it fun.

For example, I took the time to cook with care. Such a meal was delicious. I also took the time to clean and organize my tools. That made me love and cherish them.

I recently learned that taking my time was also giving them my love. In other words, love might be accepting inconvenience.

Inconvenience is not a negative thing to live in the countryside. It is a part of fulfillment. My countryside life taught me that.

Conclusion

That is the meaning of ‘inconvenience doesn’t mean unhealthy.’

Thanks to the inconvenience, we can get a healthy lifestyle.

This knowledge might allow us to head toward a peaceful life.
