In several recent articles, I have talked about topics related to the war. Today, I will introduce a mindset for escaping a crisis.
How to secure our safety
Sometimes, we want to secure our safety, especially when society is unstable. Confusion, such as wars, signs of a recession, disasters, or great power confrontations, is beginning to arise in the world.
Although there are always conflicts and disasters in every era, history tells us that the current situation is heading toward chaos. History repeats itself, and now we are in such a historical phase. The confusion that is about to occur could impact us more significantly.
That is why we want to secure our safety in life. In other words, we need to be prepared.
The necessity of preparation for escape
One of the most important preparations would be the one for escape. We have to escape from a crisis that could be fatal.
The magnitude of loss is different. Delayed escape means deadly. On the other hand, early escape can result in minor losses. The situation that we have to escape is always so.
For example, there is a war in the Middle East now. A strong country began to bombard a small neighboring area relentlessly. The enemy country surrounds this area except the southern border. Now civilians there cannot escape due to closed borders. Homes and living infrastructure have been destroyed, and food and medical supplies have been lost. Sometimes, we cannot escape if we lose the opportunity.
This is not only about war. There could be many fatal situations in our lives. Holding a bad relationship can be disastrous if we don’t exit immediately. We may continue to work a job that doesn’t suit us. We may try to fulfill others who are never satisfied. They continue to exhaust us.
Our habituation to continuous exhaustion prevents us from escaping. We lose the mental power to doubt and judge how abnormal the current situation is. That causes committing suicide or surrendering to destructive impulses.
A mindset for escaping a crisis
That is why knowing the importance of escape is necessary.
However, we sometimes don’t consider it. That makes us feel like we are vulnerable to crisis.
Today, I will introduce one mindset for escaping a crisis: the door to escape opens only once. This mental preparation might give us a lifestyle to adapt to the coming confusion period.
The door to escape opens only once
In my opinion, one of the most important things is the awareness that ‘the door to escape opens only once.’ Missing that one-time opportunity could be fatal.
By the way, the frequency of opportunity to profit and to escape is different. We have many opportunities to make profits. We don’t have to force ourselves to stick to one source of income. On the other hand, opportunities to escape are few.
This would be because the influential people around us tend to be unaware of how the loss of our escape costs at the first stage.
An example of the war
For example, in the case of the war in the Middle East, right after the start of the bombardment, the border to the southern neighboring country was opened. Civilians there could leave the area as refugees.
However, that was almost the only opportunity for ordinary civilians to exit the area. After that, the border rarely opened.
Perhaps the neighboring country didn’t know how much it cost at first and learned it by experiencing it. Accepting refugees creates many domestic problems, especially during a confused era. Many countries don’t have room to help other countries’s poor people. That makes them hesitant to help those refugees.
In addition, the enemy sometimes may not allow us to leave easily to maximize their profits. For example, assume we continue to do our best in hard work and are exhausted. In this case, our bosses will not let us leave soon if they know how much profit they will lose by our leaving. The more patiently we work, the less they will let us go. If the enemy hates us, they will keep suffering us intentionally.
That is why opportunities to escape tend to be few. That is the meaning of ‘the door to escape opens only once.’
Preparation for escape
We have to be aware of that and prepared not to miss the few opportunities.
We don’t have to hesitate to escape, especially if we are empathic and creative. Of course, if we live competitive lives in society, running away soon would be a shame. However, if we want to be independent and survive, the ability to detect a fatal risk and escape is essential.
We tend to get used to the environment if we keep staying there, even if it is extremely unusual. That often makes us lose the mental power to doubt how abnormal the situation is. We have to escape from it as soon as we feel any discomfort that could be fatal.
Our lives are more important than trivial belongings. When the enemy starts relentless airstrikes and we feel a fatal risk, we can get away with a few baggage. The furniture is not expensive. There is a lot of junk in the house. Letting them go is not a cost compared to holding the critical risks. We can buy those items later.
Being aware of that would be the preparation for escape.
Conclusion
One of the most important things to escape would be the awareness that ‘the door to escape opens only once.’
Although there are many opportunities to make profits, there are few opportunities to escape. Missing that one-time opportunity could be fatal.
This mental preparation might give us a lifestyle to adapt to the coming confusion period.
