Recently, I mentioned the nature of focusing too much several times. Today, I will talk about another state: lack of concentration.
Is there any value in not being focused?
Sometimes, we want to know how to use our individuality. If we find it difficult to live, it means that our individuality doesn’t match some parts of our way of life. This mismatch creates suffering.
One of the troubles is the nature of being absorbed too much. When we encounter something we can focus on, we might forget everything else and concentrate on it. Forgetting to sleep and eat is an example.
In my opinion, we don’t need to be anxious about it as long as we head toward independence, as I explained in an earlier article (this article). We can solve the problem by knowing another aspect of our wants and being at ease with it.
However, we sometimes cannot do it due to our beliefs. When we believe that focusing on something is good, it is hard to imagine how to use the distracted state efficiently in life.
Today, I will introduce how to use the unconcentrated state efficiently. This knowledge might help you get new ideas to improve your life.
How to use an unconcentrated state efficiently
Being unconcentrated is a state in which we try to detect information widely. It gives us routes from a wide perspective. In other words, we can get another idea.
In this mental state, we are distracted, even though we want to head toward independence. We become absentminded and lose interest in what we like. No matter what we try to do, we don’t feel like it. We also avoid interacting with others.
We become numb to not only gains but also losses. We stop doing things we don’t want to do more easily. Sometimes, even the things we need in our daily lives become a chore, such as cooking, having decent meals, cleaning, or being well-dressed.
It may look like we have become lazy.
A meditational state that gives us ideas
However, this is the state in which our subconsciousness is searching for a new opportunity, in my opinion. In this state, we combine what we can use from a huge amount of information inside us.
This absentminded state would be one of the meditational states. When trying to get inspiration, we don’t think; we meditate.
For example, think about what you want to eat for dinner today based on your mood. We may first say, “What do I want to eat?” Next, we may put our fingers on our chin. Then, we empty our minds and meditate to get an idea from our subconscious. Finally, we get an idea from our minds, “I want to eat meat today!”
This is meditation, not thinking. A meditational state allows us to obtain information that we are unaware of.
When we try to find a new opportunity, we have to find new combinations with numerous possibilities. That is why we become absentmindedly. It is a state when our subconsciousness is working hard.
An example of mystery stories
In mystery stories, you can often find examples.
Remember the moment when the main character of the detective sees through the tricks of the criminal case. He becomes thoughtful, dull, and uninterested in other things. Then, after he gives up thinking, takes a break, and relaxes a little, the answer to the tricks flashes through his mind.
When we are relaxed in an absentminded state, we are most inspired.
Accepting a distracted state in our lives
However, we often misunderstand that being active and concentrating on something are the only things that can improve our lives.
Killing time with our smartphones in our spare time is a typical example. We try to avoid unconcentrated states. It is as if we are afraid of our free, empty time.
That stagnates our lives because we cannot get ideas to break through. In other words, the bias towards one side—always trying to do something productive—is hindering our progress.
Try noticing the moment you want to be distracted. When you can be relaxed in such a state, you may be able to solve your problem.
Conclusion
That is why we need an unconcentrated state and how to use it efficiently.
Being unconcentrated is a state in which we try to detect information widely. It gives us routes from a wide perspective. In other words, we can get another idea.
This knowledge might help you get new ideas to break through your stagnation.
