At last, I completed all the official formalities for my move. I submitted the relocation procedure to this city and officially changed my address.
Although my room is still messy and I have many things to organize, I finished one big goal. This gave me a different emotion this time. This move was stressful initially, but yesterday, I felt this whole moving process was fulfilling. Today, I will talk about it.
How to keep hope when we are forced to change
Sometimes, we want hope when it is inevitable to plunge into an unknown environment. We cannot stay in the old place anymore. We have to move forward even if we cry.
For example, we have to graduate from an unsuitable environment after we grow up. If we refuse it, society or our surroundings forces us to do something against our will. That stresses us and makes us sad. We have to go our own way.
That is why we want the hope that we can be happy in the new place, even if we don’t know what it is.
However, we sometimes cannot have it.
In such a situation, my recent experience might help. If the life direction is right, it will be fulfilling later, even if it is a hard process. Today, I will talk about it.
My example of how forced change became fun
In my case, I was forced to move against my will this time. At first, it was disgusting and stressful.
However, after I submitted the relocation procedure to this city yesterday, I felt, “This move was a tough but fulfilling time.” The emotion was a kind of sadness when I finished and lost a fun thing.
This awareness surprised me because I noticed I enjoyed it from my heart. It was a fun process, like crossing everything off a to-do list. Although the trigger was forced to do so, I could do it freely. I set a goal for where to live, when to arrive, how to live, and planned. I considered various risks and took measures.
Then, I finally realized it almost perfectly with minimal loss. Many fortunate events happened. That total process was fulfilling. I realized I wanted to continue this tough work.
Alternating our two states to enjoy
Perhaps we have two states, as follows:
- The comfortable in a stable state: We prefer a peaceful state to a dynamic, stressful state. We try to make losses as few as possible.
- The dynamic state to make change happen: We prefer adapting to a new situation to maintaining the old lifestyle. We try to maximize the efficiency of our new lifestyles, even if it requires some sacrifices.
We can enjoy alternating between both. It is like a wave. Sometimes, we want to ensure a comfortable state, but we sometimes wish to change.
In my case, the want to live in the countryside is caused by the former, the wish for stability. However, to realize it, I have to be in a dynamic state to change. Both are necessary and enjoyable processes.
Suffering may come from not being able to switch between those two states.
Starting with a small to-do list
Of course, we often cannot switch our mental state immediately.
However, this mental work tells us we can start by making a small to-do list. As we work through it gradually, we will find the energy and momentum to change.
That would allow us to adapt to new situations.
As long as we can head in the right direction, we can enjoy both soon. It is a matter of time. In my case, the direction was independence. My enjoyment would have started from the moment I decided to live in the countryside—this town.
Conclusion
That was my recent experience.
If the life direction is right, it will be fulfilling later, even if it is a hard process.
We can enjoy alternating between a stable state and a dynamic state. We have to switch them appropriately. The rest is a matter of time.
This experience might help you to keep hope when it is inevitable to plunge into an unknown environment.
