He seemed to like freedom and was not good at following other people’s orders. Then he tried to do the trending, profitable work as a freelancer. But he had failed and became depressed.
We sometimes have such a desire for independence. But we sometimes don’t know what kind of work will fit us. At such times, we tend to search for trending, profitable work that we can do. But in many cases, we fail because so many people flock to such works.
In such cases, trying to find out the time-consuming parts of our favorites might be a good idea. This concept might give us a profitable area where we can apply our strengths.
Chances in time-consuming parts
To explain that, let me talk about what I have noticed these days. Recently, I have tried the “making from scratch” challenge. The rule of this challenge is simple: we try creating things from materials as much as possible. It gives us creativity and reduces our reliance on money.
Through that experience, I realized that many people don’t want to wait. They want it as soon as possible. It means that there could be chances in time-consuming parts.
For example, there is a product called self-rising flour. This is a simple mixture of flour, salt, and baking powder. However, it costs about 1.5 times what we pay when we buy it separately and mix it ourselves.
Another example is yogurt. We can make yogurt easily. After combining milk and a small amount of yogurt, place it in a warm place for around 8 hours. But many people usually buy yogurt, even if it costs 1.5 times as much.
Dried fruits and vegetables are more extreme. We can make it very easily. Only cut it and place it in a dry place. It just takes time and space. However, it costs 3-5 times more.
Some foods also tend to be expensive, such as fermented foods, dried foods, or aged foods. Because it takes time to make. And the longer we have to wait, the more expensive it will be.
Waiting is painful, so it is a chance
Perhaps “waiting” is one of the most painful things in our lives. We want to get it now! We want to succeed now! Without waiting! So some people buy them, even if they cost more.
So we can find chances in that area. There are time-consuming parts in our favorite areas that we can do with joy. These parts tend to be profitable areas. Because some people dislike it and refuse to take a lot of time.
And we can be more creative in this area. We could improve the process if we had more interest.
In other words, we don’t need to follow trends. There are also many chances that few people will notice. Those chances are in the areas that don’t shine, and no one longs for them. But the chances that fit us could also be there.
I like such a way of thinking.
