Since I have to go to my brother’s pastry shop and help him today, let’s talk about something that impressed me recently.
How to reduce the fear of failure
Sometimes, we want to reduce the fear of failure and do everything perfectly.
However, it can sometimes be difficult and prevent you from taking action.
In such cases, try focusing on recovery skills rather than eliminating the problem. That perspective may enable you to try small things and develop confidence gradually.
The impressive recoveries for me
To explain it, let’s look at two events I recently saw at my brother’s pastry shop.
In a bakery, bakers have to create a wide variety of products. The ingredients and the method appear similar but different. For example, they use many different types of sugar, and slight differences in temperature or processing orders can affect the taste and texture significantly.

Naturally, such complexity often leads them to make mistakes.
However, their recovery skills impressed me. They knew how to successfully correct after making a mistake.

For example, a chef tried to warm eggs on the stove but left them. It ended up partially burned and hardened. It became like watery scrambled eggs.
Although we usually think such eggs cannot be used, the chef recovered them immediately. He strained it through a sieve with a fine mesh and removed the lumps. Then, he added the necessary eggs and returned to the normal process.

Since the cake with the eggs is ultimately baked, there was no problem as long as it was mixed well with other powdery ingredients. However, to mix well, the eggs needed to be in a liquid state. That logic was reasonable and reassured me.
Recovering elegantly
For another example, when I measured and mixed the ingredients for the first time last December, I mismeasured the eggs. By the time I realized it, it was already mixing in the mixer with other ingredients. I trembled at my mistake.
However, when I pointed it out, my brother measured the total weight, including the huge mixing steel container, and then dealt with it by calculating the ratio.

He said that such mistakes often happen, and it was true. I saw even professionals sometimes make mistakes. They were inevitable ones beyond what management could handle.
Those recoveries impressed me. Being perfect was not necessarily essential. We can recover from failure. That was also the difference between a professional and a beginner.
Conclusion
They were the events that impressed me recently.
In many cases, there are ways to recover. Learning them is also part of the progress that entertains us.
Anyway, I will go to my brother’s pastry shop and enjoy learning to bake.
Thank you for reading this article. I hope to see you in the next one.
