Weekend Random Thoughts: Yesterday’s Work at the Pastry Shop

Since I will go to my brother’s pastry shop and help him today, let’s introduce a task I did yesterday.

Wrapping cakes requires intense carefulness

I came to feel that meticulous creators are well-suited to baking pastry. It requires carefulness.

Individually wrapping sliced raspberry cakes with film: the tart crust at the bottom was fragile.

One unexpected thing for me was that wrapping cakes requires delicacy. Yesterday, I experienced it.

Wrapping sliced cheesecakes

You may know that sliced cakes are often wrapped in a thin, transparent film. Its purpose is to prevent the cake from losing its shape. That is why fluffy cakes, such as sliced sponge cakes, are usually wrapped in a film.

I love cheesecake.

Although I first felt that it would be easy, after I started that task, I soon realized it demands intense concentration and carefulness. We have to carry a soft cake cautiously, cannot touch its coating, and have to cover the film properly.

Wrapping ganache cakes required extreme care. It exhausted me mentally. Ganache cake demands mental strength to make.

I had an accident when doing that task on ganache cakes. My hand accidentally hit the coating of the adjacent piece while wrapping one.

The good news is that a cake can be fixed easily even after minor physical damage. Fortunately, the pastry chef repaired it.

A beautiful ganache coating applied by a professional pastry chef. It was like a mirror.

It seemed that such mishaps are common. Even veteran pastry chefs sometimes needed to repair the cake while decorating.

Conclusion

Anyway, baking pastry is interesting.

I will have fun tomorrow, too, although it demands physical strength.

Thank you for reading this article. I hope to see you in the next one.

Yesterday’s reward: a defective strawberry shortcake. It was tasty and fulfilling!
