The two biggest problems for creators are motivation and money. We often feel that they are contradictory. If we prioritize motivation, we need to sacrifice profit. On the other hand, if we choose profit, we lose motivation. Either way, we struggle between spiritual fulfillment and physical abundance.
That makes us want to know how to solve those problems.
One solution is to understand the purpose of expression and rationality. Although I have recently explained them many times, I will summarize them from another perspective. This logic might resolve your struggle between motivation and money.
Two logical desires
We can consider the desire to express ourselves as something that should be consumed early. That will balance our wants between motivation and money.
If we are empathic and logical, we have the following two wants.
- Desire to express ourselves: It is the process of cultivating our logical ability to make rational judgments. Expressing ourselves—it means understanding relationships and contradictions by simplifying our situations—enables us to understand our circumstances appropriately. That logical recognition excites us. This process is logically fulfilling, not spiritually. Correct recognition eases our emotions.
- Desire to be rational: It is the ideal state for logical people. It requires understanding our circumstances reasonably. That enables us to judge calmly based on our situations without emotional exhaustion. In other words, we can strategically create abundance. This process satisfies physical abundance, including money, and intellectual wants. We can live comfortably and peacefully, even without intense excitement.
They are the wants that our logical sense brings us.
A life without holding back
Those purposes show us that the motivation to express ourselves doesn’t conflict with making money. A state of struggling with motivation and money means that we are still in a growing process of rationality.
One of the biggest misunderstandings is that we have to maintain that excitement. In other words, we should consume the logical excitement sooner without holding back.
There are several kinds of excitement: social, competitive, empathic, and logical.
Logical ability makes the process enjoyable. That excites us, more or less. Examples are curiosity, logical thinking, prediction, receiving feedback, identifying misunderstandings, verbalizing contradictions, simplifying our situations, explaining things clearly to others, and expressing ourselves. All of them are connected closely. They make us fun.
In other words, the excitement that comes only from the result doesn’t suit our nature.
Logical excitements are things to be consumed. The more we ingest them, the more our reasoning skills grow. Since there are infinite things that we can improve in the world, we don’t need to worry about running out of curiosity.
It means that we have to continue to solve intellectual problems one after another. Its process includes expressing ourselves, satisfying ourselves, and giving it up. We continuously progress to the next stage. That will naturally motivate us.
We can get motivated by many things as long as we can comprehend. In my case, I had no interest in making bags until the previous early summer. However, understanding its rationality made me enjoy it. Even if it were sewing clothes, making jam, or farming, I would have been interested as long as there was rationality. That improved my material abundance while satisfying my intellectual wants.
Since logical activities make the process enjoyable, we can keep moving on to the next stage. That creates our future while enriching ourselves.
