Finishing My 10th Bag: It Was Not As Eccentric as I Anticipated

I finally finished my 10th bag. Let’s introduce it today.

About the new bag

The 10th bag I created was a remodeled large tote bag with long handles. It is made from two pairs of different jeans, as shown in the following photo. Its width is 39 cm.

Although I wondered if it was overly high-contrast during sewing, it turned out to be less eccentric than I had expected. If we think it is a modern design, it is not so strange. Since it provides a sharp image to the owner, it is for young people with an urban vibe.

Its usage may be limited due to its contradictory concepts. Remodeling often goes against modern design. Since remaking is based on frugality, naturally calm colors and low contrast are appropriate. On the other hand, urban and modern design provides a luxurious impression. It goes along with sharp, vivid colors and high contrast.

The back surface of the bag

If we think of it as a toolbox for engaging in urban consumptive artistic activities—such as street painting and a funky street performance—its design may be suited for the purpose.

It would become more beautiful when used for dirty work than when used neatly. Imagine that bag with paint stains or dirt stains. It would provide the owner with the attractiveness of an active artist.

In other words, this modern design doesn’t align well with the concept of remodeling. I will not create such modern designs in a remodel. Although it is not an ideal result, it gave me a lesson.

Trying new things

I tried new techniques this time as well.

One of the challenges is saving as much fabric as possible by using patchwork. Examples are the two-tone colors on the handle and the side surface. They were not intended for design but rather to utilize the leftover fabric efficiently. Although I didn’t intend the beauty of the appearance, it gave the bag a sharp impression.

The second challenge was sewing the inner fabric differently. However, it was not for me. I learned that this way is for a professional who can align the cloth accurately.

Inside the bag, it has two pockets.

I also tried a few other new sewing techniques. Trying something new is fun.

Conclusion

Anyway, I finished my 10th bag. Although it was not satisfying, I got valuable feedback on the design.

By the way, I will participate in the local autumn festival held tomorrow and sell my bags.

I will skip tomorrow’s blogging due to that event. I hope my works will sell.

Thank you for reading this article. I hope to see you in the next one.
