How to Accept Time-Consuming Improvement and Eliminate Impatience

For the past 10 days, I have worked on my next bag. It required a more advanced sense than the one I currently possess. Since it is based on my physical sense, it seemed I could not improve it in the short term.

That made me consider how to accept a strategic long-term enhancement. Let’s talk about it.

How to solve the conflict between quality and quantity

Sometimes, we want to resolve our inner conflict about the quality of our products.

There is a struggle between securing quality and increasing frequency. Trying to improve our product quality forces us to reduce the frequency of production. On the other hand, prioritizing release quantity over quality sacrifices the time for skill development.

In other words, improving both requires time. That bothers us. How do we resolve it?

Recently, I also have had such a problem. My current sense allows me to align and sew fabric to 5-millimeter precision. However, my current work requires 1-millimeter precision. Although I wanted to enhance my skills, it required time. Since I currently spend about 2 weeks learning and creating a single bag, I cannot afford to allocate additional time to each one.

That made me feel frustrated and want to resolve it.

One solution is to establish a consistent production schedule and produce it regularly, even if the quality is not the best. Today, I will explain why.

Looking from a strategic perspective

Some elements require time, no matter how strategic we are. Examples are developing physical senses, building a customer base, and expanding our reputation. Since these elements are material rather than logical, they require time to cultivate.

Strategically, it makes no sense to rush the process of skill development when we follow the cycle of social change.

For example, suppose we are trying to build a business. It is expected to reach its peak over the next 5 to 10 years based on a long-term social cycle.

In this situation, it is unreasonable to achieve ideal skills or a reputation in just a few months. When we enter the business field, it is often at the bottom of the trend. The majority of people will not pay attention to us, no matter how much we struggle.

That tells us we have to follow the cycle in the areas that require time. It includes developing skills. We don’t need higher skills from the beginning.

In other words, growing according to the cycle creates a reputation more efficiently. During the rising phase of the cycle, customers judge not only the current capabilities but also our potential for the future. Our growth can also be strategic.

That awareness frees us from the pressure of skill development and customer acquisition. We can progress while having fun.

Eliminating impatience

That tells us that we can establish a consistent production schedule and produce it regularly, even if the quality is not the best. We will improve quality and quantity gradually.

It is like blogging. The very first articles often don’t make so much impact. However, consistent and stable quality of articles attracts some kinds of people. In addition, the more we release, the more our skills improve.

In my case, I initially updated this blog once every three days. However, by taking time, I was able to shorten the update frequency and enhance my writing skills gradually. It includes developing my English ability. Although I want to write the best article every day, I don’t mind if I cannot write it interestingly since this blog is a more long-term activity than sewing.

In such a long-term activity, I know I don’t have to rush. Some articles became famous, although they were not popular at first. I often received unexpected favorable responses from articles that I could not write well.

I realized that the same went for sewing bags. That freed me from the stress of struggling between securing quality and increasing frequency.

Conclusion

That was how I resolved the struggle between securing quality and increasing frequency.

Strategically, it makes no sense to rush the process of skill development when we follow the cycle of social change.

We can establish a consistent production schedule and produce it regularly, even if the quality is not the best.

That might help you resolve your conflict about the quality of our products.
