I started sewing bags as a hobby several months ago. Since I didn’t have enough closet space after moving to my parents’ home, I had to create storage solutions to organize my items efficiently. I had long wanted to create something tangible, so sewing bags was enjoyable.
After finishing bags for myself, I started creating ones for selling.
To my surprise, I received my first order for creating bags yesterday. It was all of a sudden. Let’s talk about it.
My first receipt order
I received my first bag order. My parents went ahead and placed the order without asking me. The customer is one of my parents’ clients. Perhaps my parents judged that I could do it.
I have heard that the seamstresses in this area are reluctant to create bags. They prefer clothes. That caused the shortage of bag makers in this area. On the other hand, I like to sew bags rather than clothes.
Although I thought that my strategy would have an advantage, I didn’t expect it to be this much.

The order consisted of three types of remodeled, large tote bags with long handles. The customer will choose one of them.
That told me that this order was a test of my work. A large, long-handled tote bag has the simplest structure that even beginners can create. It is also the cheapest. In addition, it can be used for various purposes. Long handles can be hung over the shoulder. A large tote bag can be used flexibly in everyday life. Even if I create a terrible bag, the customer can use it as storage for farm equipment or something.
The order style
I also realized that the style of the order was beneficial for both the customer and the creator.
For creators who want to design and create freely, like us, we don’t need to make an unpleasant design. Since we only have rough category restrictions, it seldom goes against our will.
For customers, choosing from three options allows them to reduce the risk of receiving a disliked product. In addition, they can leave it up to the creator’s sense, especially in remodeling orders like this time.

The remaining two bags that didn’t sell can be offered to another customer or sold in the stores. Although we initially have to create three bags, we can provide three options again by sewing only one additional bag from next time.
That is why this order style is beneficial to both the creator and the customer. I learned it for the first time.
The intention of the customer
This order may be intended to assess the creator’s skill and design sense.
The customer probably knows I am a beginner. I guess that he or she doesn’t expect me to show advanced professional skills or use expensive materials. Otherwise, he would not order such a simple bag.

It means I need to add something special to it in a simple product.
It is the same as the cookie strategy I explained in the earlier article (this article). We can show our uniqueness and potential in a simple product. That will determine the next order.
If we can turn the customer into a fan, they might buy all three.
Conclusion
Anyway, I received my first order for creating bags, although it was surprising.
I will prioritize this order over the products for the festival held this month.
It seems it became exciting suddenly.
Although I don’t know what the future holds, let’s try the invitation to the new stage.
Thank you for reading this article. I hope to see you in the next one.
