I am now making a new bag. Since I have gradually been able to sew decently and beautifully, let’s talk about how to see the difference.
How to discern quality
Sometimes, we want to know how to distinguish quality.
The ability to see the key point is useful both when we buy and when we create. When we buy something, it allows us to get better items affordably. On the other hand, when we create something, we can make better products with less effort.
It is pointless to put effort into inefficient areas. If we can discern key factors and handle things efficiently, we can become abundant in a short time.

That is why we want to discern the key point that determines quality.
However, we sometimes lack opportunities to learn it.
Today, I will introduce sewing examples. Since the key points are often similar in any field, this perspective would help your creation.
Looking at troublesome details and overall balance
In my opinion, we can assess quality in the troublesome details and overall balance. Creators who finish those parts more neatly and rationally are trusted.
A person who can pay attention to the little details tends to be able to complete the whole task carefully. At the same time, a rational person is harder to get caught up in the details and disrupt the overall balance.

These two principles help us eliminate the products for only appearances and meaningless details.
A sewing example
To make it easier to understand, let’s look at sewing examples.
In making bags, inner pockets are one of the parts in which we can see the difference easily. They cannot be seen from the outside. However, they are important functional features of a bag. Since many people care about only appearances, the differences are often shown in the functionality that is invisible from the outside.
It means that a bag with carefully finished inner pockets is a sign of a well-made bag by a good creator.
For example, I am currently making a new bag, and its inner pocket has two layers of fabric, as shown in the following image.

This is because it allows me to hide the edges of the textile. The fabric edges fray, look unsightly, and easily trigger fabric damage. You may have experienced that a single thread comes out from the seams or edges of clothing, and when you pull it, the fabric distorts. That often disappoints you, especially if you like those clothes. That is one typical damage cause.
What is a beautiful finish?
In making bags, one effective solution is the two-layered fabric that I introduced above. It appears beautiful and prevents fabric damage. That is why I applied such a sewing method.
However, it requires troublesome sewing processing. Since I have to sew two pieces of fabric and turn them inside out, the corners tend to become rounded or distorted.
Look at the following pictures. It is the inner pocket sewn with the liner, which is the inner fabric of the bag. No. 1 and No. 2 are ideal for finishing. Those corners look beautiful, although I failed the seam of No. 2.

On the other hand, the corner of No. 3 in the following image is a bit rounded. Although I tried to fix it, I could not do it well and gave up.

Those details show us the carefulness and skill of the creator. They show us that I still cannot finish beautifully.
Being rational
While we care about those details, we have to be rational and consider the overall balance.
For example, although a two-layered fabric makes the edges beautiful, it is pointless to use it in shirts and pants. In those cases, using a single layer of fabric is more comfortable.
For another example, some bags, such as insulated bags, don’t require inner pockets. Those inner pockets will easily damage the bag.
That is why we also have to be rational. Unreasonable detail creates something pointless. This logic would apply to many fields.
Conclusion
That is an example of how to distinguish quality.
We can assess quality in the troublesome details and overall balance.
Creators who finish those parts more neatly and rationally will be trusted.
This perspective might improve your creation.
