The Difference Between Relaxation and Boredom: How to Enjoy a Less Energetic State

Now I am enjoying a relaxed life. Although I used to think it would be boring, I was wrong. It was comfortable. Let’s talk about it.

How to live peacefully

Sometimes, we want to live peacefully. Many stressful events exhaust us.

However, we don’t wish for boredom. Although we want a break, having nothing to do is also painful. That makes us hesitate to relax and pursue only excitement that strains us.

Recently, I realized that relaxation differs from boredom. We can enjoy a peaceful life with curiosity. Although I explained this topic several times, I will update it. This distinction might calm you down and improve your life.

Relaxation vs. boredom

Being relaxed doesn’t mean being uninterested in anything. It allows us to enjoy various things moderately.

The difference between relaxation and boredom is as follows:

  • Relaxation: We don’t seek excitement. We do various things while limiting stress. That allows us to be interested in new things and enjoy them. It is a rationality-dominant state.
  • Boredom: We pursue more excitement. We seek stimuli that generate positive emotions or suppress negative emotions. Since the unknown makes us fear, we tend to avoid the unfamiliar and unimaginable. It is an emotion-dominant state.

From the perspective of curiosity, boredom doesn’t provide us with new interest; relaxation does.

Living with low consumption

Low energy during relaxation means fuel-efficient, not a lack of vitality. Living with a big engine and high displacement is not the whole way to live. A relaxed lifestyle would suit those who prefer low consumption and sustainability.

When we are at ease, we are luxurious in terms of being stress-free. It is similar to money. We can afford stress as long as it is within our stress tolerance. It includes emotional stress. It is one form of abundance.

In other words, prioritizing relaxation over stimuli gives us another balance of wealth.

That allows us to enjoy new things. Even if it makes us feel negative, we can afford it. We don’t have to rely on money or a goal that brings us high motivation. We can live comfortably even without an exciting goal that makes us forget the meaninglessness in our lives.

I could not distinguish between relaxation and the suppression of negative emotions. That caused my exhaustion. However, after I could relax enough, I came to enjoy meaningless things, such as chores, weeding, sewing, and small talk with others.

It is not lifeless but fuel-efficient. We can also find joy in such a life.

Conclusion

That is the difference between relaxation and boredom.

We can enjoy a peaceful life while improving it.

This distinction might calm you down and improve your life.
