Judgment Over Knowledge: How to Use Logical Sense Effectively

I am now focusing on creating the concept of minimalism in thinking. It is a style to improve lives for logical people. It has cleared up my cluttered mind.

Today, I will introduce another perspective to understand how we can use our logical talent.

How to solve our problems more easily

Sometimes, we want to solve our problems more easily. Many troubles, such as social stresses, a lack of money, freedom, or skills, bother us.

Although learning many things with patience would improve our lives, we already know that such an approach doesn’t suit us, especially if we have unique individuality. We are not good at patience. In other words, we want to use our uniqueness to solve problems efficiently.

One unique quality is logical sense. It allows us to create hundreds or thousands of applications from one principle. In other words, logical talented people are good at dealing with unknown problems, such as ones without answers or for which the answer has not been found yet.

How to use logical talent

If you like this blog, you would have a talent for logic because this blog explains it.

It indicates that we have a talent to solve our problems more effectively. It is our logical sense. We can use it more.

However, we don’t know how to use it efficiently.

Today, I will introduce a perspective on how to use our logical sense to solve our problems. Judgment over knowledge is the style. This style might help you make your life easier.

Two approaches to solving problems

There are two approaches to solving problems, as follows:

  • Resolve with judgment: We try to solve with principles and fundamentals. It means that we create applications based on several universal laws. Although it requires logical sense, it allows us to solve many problems, even ones without an answer. This is for people with logical sense.
  • Solve with knowledge: We try to solve based on know-how. The more we learn, the more problems we can handle. However, it often requires patience. This is not good at answering unknown issues. This is for people without logical sense.

If we have logical sense, the former—resolving with judgment—would suit us.

Tools in thinking

Thinking means problem-solving. The purpose of thinking is solving problems.

As we use tools to fix mechanical troubles, we also use tools in our thinking to get ideas. They are as follows:

  • (The simplest) Logic
  • Ways of life
  • Strategies
  • (The more specific) Ways of thinking or individual tips

Prioritizing judgment over knowledge means relying on the higher (simpler) side. We focus on logic, ways of life, and sometimes strategies rather than ways of thinking or individual tips.

To understand this style, let’s look at two examples viewed from a different timeline. The first example is how to learn a second language from a short time frame perspective. The other is an example of making money from a broader, historical perspective.

An example of learning a second language

Let’s look at the first example from a short-term perspective. It tells us that logical sense allows us to proceed steadily with confidence and motivation.

Suppose that we try to learn a second language. It is a typical example of an activity without a certain answer. We have to resolve continuous unknown problems. This example shows us why logical sense is effective in mastering.

If we prioritize knowledge, we try to increase our know-how as much as possible. For example, we try to memorize new words, phrases, or grammar as much as possible. We think that the more we know in detail, the more effective it is.

However, it often stagnates us because it is boring. We don’t know how long it will take to reach a usable level or how much we need to memorize. There are always special phrases we don’t know yet, even in our mother tongue. That makes us lose confidence and motivation.

How to learn with logical sense

On the other hand, if we prioritize judgment (logical sense), we can use the second language immediately, even with a little knowledge. We can achieve it by focusing on the most useful words, phrases, and grammars we already know.

It is the same as cooking. Imagine when we cook for the first time. If we understand we just need to chop ingredients finely and heat them, we can cook something immediately. Although it might not be so tasty, at least it can fill our stomachs.

In the case of learning a second language, we can communicate immediately. Picture the situation: we first go to a donut shop and try to buy using the second language. However, we intentionally limit the number of usable words as much as possible. We choose only a few core words, like ‘yes,’ ‘no,’ ‘this,’ ‘please,’ or ‘thank you.’ We try to achieve shopping only with them and some gestures.

Imagine the moment we accomplish it. It is wonderful! They understood our second language! That achievement is purely based on our logical sense. Identifying core words or essential factors requires logical sense.

That encourages us and improves our logic. We focus on more universal words, phrases, and grammar. Based on that, we imagine and create various expressions that convey the message more effectively.

If we rely on knowledge, we try to reduce what we don’t know. It requires endless efforts. On the other hand, if we rely on judgment, we try to find the most efficient principle. That allows us immediate results and continuous progression, even if they are not so ‘tasty’ at first.

An example of making money

Second, let’s look at an example of making money. It is also a prime example that has no right answer. We have to face continuous unknown problems. Let’s look at it from a broader, historical perspective this time.

We can change our view angles based on thinking tools, as follows:

  • (The simplest) Logic: We think about what kind of laws operate on money. We try to find its origin and the purpose from a broader, historical perspective.
  • Ways of life: We philosophize what money or work is. It means we intentionally lose the correct answer. It makes us understand that all activities lead to our survival. That allows us to balance our contradictory aspects. We will know we don’t have to stick to money.
  • Strategies: We divide the abundance we want to obtain into at least three segments. That allows us to find relatively strong and weak areas and create strategies. It can be used not only to make money but also for other means of production.
  • (The more specific) Ways of thinking or individual tips: We find concrete methods that can work instantly, such as seeking saving tips, a higher-paying job, or ways to control our wants. Although they benefit us in the short term, they usually don’t solve the root problem.

Looking at the money problem from higher perspectives will change how we think about money.

The broader, historical perspective

Let’s look at them from the broader, historical perspective.

From a logical perspective, it gives us historical meaning. It tells us we don’t have to rely on it so much.

History says so. Humans separated from apes about 5,000,000 years ago. Then, people started agriculture about 12,000 years ago. Although they invented the concept of money at that time, it was limited to only the urban center areas. Many people in the countryside did not use money even 200 years ago.

From the historical perspective of humans, 200 years ago is just a few moments ago. Humans have not lived relying on money as we anticipated. It will help us let go of our unnecessary obsession with money, even if we don’t understand the whole money system. We can find other essential things to live.

Combining perspectives

Other perspectives are the same.

I introduced these perspectives in earlier articles, so I will skip them.

Like the example of a second language, we can combine these broader, historical, philosophical, and strategic perspectives with a short-term one. That will allow for motivated improvement.

Conclusion

Above are examples of how to use our logical sense to solve our problems.

Judgment over knowledge: this could be a style for logical people. It tells us that we can proceed steadily.

This perspective might help you make your life easier.
