Recently, I have talked about our mental system for people with individuality. By applying it, I created a new thinking tool to find new opportunities. Today, I will introduce it.
How to find new opportunities
Sometimes, we want to find new opportunities to improve our lives. If we can get them, we will be happy because the opportunity itself gives us energy. Even if we don’t achieve it yet, having a goal or a direction in life fulfills us.

Activities that we can do energetically are not the only things that satisfy us. Even if it is not a productive activity, such as resting or even curing a disease, it also makes us focus on it willingly if we understand its necessity. Things that make us healthier or more abundant give us happiness.
In other words, confusion, which is caused by not knowing what to do, makes us lose energy.
What can we be interested in now?
Knowing what we can be interested in now helps. The subjects we can be interested in keep changing. We always grow up. Even after physical growth has ended, we grow up mentally and intellectually. There should always be a possibility that we are not aware of.
For example, giving up something seems a bad result. However, we can say it is a growth that we know about ourselves more deeply. It is like a graduation. Some things can only be passionate after we experience sadness.
It is not only growth. The difference in our short-term conditions affects our curiosity. If we can identify what fascinates us now, we can focus on it.

They are why we want to know what we can be interested in now. This would help us find new opportunities.
However, we sometimes don’t know how to do it.
To solve this problem, I created a new thinking tool. I named it the current self-rediscovery tool. Today, I will introduce it.
What is the current self-rediscovery tool?
The current self-rediscovery tool is a thinking tool to find what we can be interested in now.
In this tool, there is a list of two contradictory desires that are seen from multiple different angles. You will choose which one resonates with you right now. This would provide you with a new interest that you are not aware of yet.

Let’s look at the actual steps. It is only 3 steps.
Step 1: Choose words that feel fresh
There is a list of two conflicting behaviors at the end of this step. Choose which one resonates with you with the feeling of freshness.
You don’t have to consider it. Choose by mood. You can rely on your two senses: freshness with interest and frustration. Choose the one you have an affinity for now, and exclude the one you feel frustrated with.
You don’t have to care about whether you choose from only the right or left side. There is no meaning in the difference in the position of the left and right. Just pick up the words that resonate with you.

If both or neither resonates with you, skip the two and exclude both. It is a sign that you are satisfied or you have a mental complex in that angle. Ignoring them is better.
Be honest with yourself and sensitive to your feelings, especially to frustration. You choose based on your current mood, not the way you have always lived till now.
The list of two conflicting behaviors
Here is the list:
- Doubt things vs. believe things
- Live with what you have at hand vs. challenge to get what you don’t have yet
- Change with confusion vs. stabilize the current state
- Focus long-term vs. focus short-term
- Go with the flow vs. go against the flow
- Conform to the masses vs. go against the masses
- Create things vs. invest in things
- Prepare vs. wait
- Enter chaos vs. enter the well-ordered place
- Compete vs. go your way
- Achieve vs. survive
- Adventure vs. farming
- Learn vs. practice
- New things vs. old things
- Be more energetic vs. be more calm down
- Power vs. wisdom
- Stop things vs. Start things

Step 2: Prioritize
Prioritize which ones resonate with you. Sort them in order.
You don’t need to sort all of them. If you can find the first few, that is enough.
Step 3: Integrate and verbalize
Integrate the first few words that you prioritized. Then, describe them in one or several phrases. It is a catchline that indicates your current direction.

If you like it, go with it for a while!
Discovering a new aspect of ourselves
If you do well, you will discover a new aspect of yourself.
In my case, I felt freshness toward ‘entering chaos.’ I also resonated with the word ‘going with the flow.’ Thus I made my catch line, ‘Let’s dive into chaos; I am already in this flow.’

This showed me a new aspect of myself. I thought I liked to live peacefully. However, entering chaos also fascinated me. This is a discovery about me.
Self-discovery is interesting. Although we seem to know ourselves, we don’t know them well. There are always other aspects inside us.
You are you; that is fine
You don’t have to worry about consistency if you head toward independence.
You are you, no matter what decision you make.

The pendulum named mood will swing in your mind. You may feel like you are denying your past self if you follow your mood that indicates against your past.
However, the pendulum is swinging and maintaining consistency.
A life like the moon
It is like the moon. The moon waxes and wanes, but the moon is still the moon. Always shining like the sun is not the whole way of life. The lifestyle of people with individuality may be like the moon. The moon has phases, so it is beautiful.

When we head toward independence, there is no failure. There is no failure in the phases of the moon. Just waxes and wanes.
Another aspect inside us is one of the phases. We can fill them. In other words, we can be more beautiful moons when we discover them and integrate them into our way of life.
