When We Are Interested in It, We Have the Talent to Do It

Last month, I saw a question that someone asked a self-help book author. “I want to live like you. But can I do that?” he asked. So today, I’ll talk about this topic: when we are interested in it, we have the talent to do it.

How to judge whether we have talent

Perhaps the person who asked above wanted confidence. We can rely on confident words, such as “You can do it!” from an authority. So that person seemed to want such encouragement.

But what we need when we try something is self-reliance. We need to take action without any guarantee. In other words, the reliance on other people’s words, “You can do it!” or the assumption, “I absolutely can!” is one of the shapes of our anxiety.

If we have confidence and don’t know the result, we can honestly say, “I don’t know whether I can do it, but I want to try it.” So we can try it. Such a relaxed attitude is confidence.

But sometimes, we want a method to decide whether we can do it. At such times, I recommend this way of thinking: when we are interested in it, we already have the talent to do it.

Possibility gives us interest

The reason is simple. We never get interested in something we don’t have talent for. In other words, we get interested in something when we find a possibility. And “possibility” means that we judged we could add something good to our lives.

For example, if we don’t like running and feel no possibilities, we never get interested in it. But if we notice running makes us healthy when we want health, we will be interested in it. And we will try it and try to find a good running style that suits us.

So, when we are interested in it, we are already ready to bring something good from it into our lives. In other words, we already have the talent to do it.

How to use our talent well

There are several ways to use our talent well. I will introduce three of them below.

First, the more strange things we are interested in, the more we have a talent for them. If people around us are not interested in it, but only we are interested in it, it will be a strong talent.

Second, the more we focus on the part that interests us, the more we can exhibit our talents. For example, after we watch a great movie created by an individual, we might feel like creating such a product. But sometimes, we might be interested in only a part, such as the story, music, or visual effects. In other words, the more we let go of disgusting parts of our interests, the more we can exhibit our talents.

Finally, we could get interested in something in many ways. Sometimes, we might get interested in a lesson forced by parents or jobs. Sometimes, we might get interested in something we don’t like at first impressions. Sometimes, after we keep going for a while, we might find something interesting. Sometimes, someone’s gratitude for us could be the trigger. There could be many triggers.

Of course, we will need to learn new skills for it. But interest will help us master them in a short time.

Conclusion

So I think we have the talent to do it when we are interested in it.

We can try it, even if we don’t know whether we can do it. That relaxation is confidence.

If we understand them, we might be able to try our possibilities easier.
