A Small Talk About Labor Shortages and the Risk of Equipment Failures

Since I will help my brother at his pastry store on weekend days, I will not have enough time to write today. Let’s briefly talk about something I felt recently.

The risk of things breaking

Lately, since I started helping my brother’s shop, I have been feeling the impact of the labor shortages around me.

One case was a lack of repairmen. My parents’ car broke down two weeks ago. However, no repairman in this area could fix it right away. The car repair shop is fully booked, and it still has not been fixed, so they are driving a replacement car provided by the repair shop.

That made me feel the risk of equipment failures, including depending on the information on the internet.

For example, I recently learned that even if the refrigerator breaks, there is no serviceman to fix it. A repairman from the maker has to travel from far away to repair it. Naturally, it takes time and costs.

That is the current situation in my area. Difficult repairs are costly.

Living in a vulnerable situation

In a situation like this, securing a simple life may help us. Complex things are difficult to repair if they break.

It applies not only to machines but also to our lifestyles, including information. Even if repair guides and parts are available online, they will be useless without an internet connection. Even if the information on the internet is secure, we are not guaranteed to always have an internet connection.

In other words, we are in a more vulnerable situation than we anticipated. To reduce risks in the following turbulent era, it would be better to build a simple lifestyle that doesn’t rely too much on the internet.

Simple tools last long, are affordable, and are easy to repair. They include local items that can be obtained easily.

The same goes for our products. Try making your products simpler. That will become a strength in the coming era.

Conclusion

Anyway, I am now enjoying helping my brother and making pastries.

Although I am experiencing various things, I am trying to understand simply and rationally.
