In my region, the summer festival season has come, and a drone light show was held in my city. Since I had not seen it, not even on the internet, I went to watch it. Let’s talk about my impression.
My impression of the drone show
Experiencing something new is enjoyable in terms of how to introduce it.
Suppose we discovered something peculiar, but no one except us knows it. In such a situation, we need to explain it to others with an easy-to-understand description. It requires logical sense and verbalizing ability.
If I describe the drone light show, I will say it is a slow firework or an aerial 3D display.
It was not bad. Although it lacks dynamic sound and movement, like fireworks, we can enjoy a calm display in the night sky.
However, it would be unsuitable for dynamic summer festivals. It was not for children and young people but for the elderly who like quietness. It was beautiful but lacked the sparkling energy of life, like fireworks.
It was a series of symbolic messages. Although messages of peace and unity can touch people’s hearts easily, many ideological metaphors make us mentally cautious. In my case, I ended up searching for meaning even in their meaningless displays. In other words, we cannot relax.
The drone show I watched yesterday was 15 minutes. At first, I felt it was too short. Fireworks often last for 30 minutes to an hour.
However, when I experienced it, I understood why it is so short. Since there is neither big action nor sound, it quickly becomes boring. 15 minutes would be the limit of concentration. Children would lose focus sooner.
Thinking about how to use the drone show effectively
In my opinion, it seems usable as a supplementary promotion for fireworks.
Drone light shows have a contradictory problem in their performance, both large-scale and small-scale.
It is not suitable for a large-scale performance. This is because the drone’s speed is slow. Even if each drone is agile, the larger the scale they perform in the sky, the slower we will feel. A static show easily bores us.
In other words, if people want dynamic action, it has to be small-scale.
However, even if it performs on a small scale, there is a problem. The smaller the scale becomes, the less meaningful it is to use so many drones. By using a 3D mesh made by connecting LED lights with threads, a 3D display can be created. It seems more efficient to use such a large display with fewer drones rather than many drones that each emit only one light.
That made me guess that drone light shows are ideal as supplementary promotion for fireworks. Drones can display companies’ logos. It allows fireworks festivals to generate revenue, although I don’t know whether displaying companies’ logos on fireworks looks elegant.
Conclusion
Anyway, the drone show was not bad. It has a unique attractiveness.
Let’s try new things and decide rationally.
